The Island of Kefalonia
Introduction

Kefalonia is the largest and most diverse of all of the Ionian Islands. From the olive and citrus groves in the south, the vineyards in the centre of the island up to the wild mountains and cypress forests on the Erissos peninsular in the north; Kefalonia offers an idyllic retreat to all of her visitors.

With an open and rugged landscape surrounded by the warm turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, the island provides a wealth of activities during the long dry summers which are perfect for water sports, hiking and cycling. Details of some of the activities available are listed here:

Stunning beaches on the island include the award winning Myrtos Beach, olive groves on Foki Beach and the sweeping sands of the beaches in the south.

Despite an unending variety of historical landmarks and places of interest that have been woven into Kefalonia’s rich tapestry, the island seems to have escaped the mass tourist throngs and retain its original character. It has kept its rustic appeal and is generally considered to be laidback and chic.

Kefalonia also provides places of interest such as Argostoli, the bustling capital of the island; Venetian fortresses; Byzantine remains; Mycenaean tombs; Roman mosaics; the aquamarine waters of the underground lake in Melissani cave; the stalactites and stalagmites of the cave of Drogarati together with the most stunning mountain and coastal scenery.
